Project Description

Not a Fair Chance

Although Carlos was raised in DC, lived in DC, and committed his crime in DC – he was deported upon his release back to where he was born: Honduras. Having spent the majority of his life in DC, being sent back to Honduras was a culture shock: he didn’t have a support system, had no connections, and wasn’t used to the way of life. This made Carlos’ reentry even more difficult to navigate than usual; he had to face the challenges most returning citizens face while navigating a new culture and environment.

“There is an emotional and mental tug of war…I’m feeling like I’m left alone”

“I want to be looked at as a person who’s earned that second chance.”
